We’ve hit mid-August and that only one thing - the anticipation is at its climax and Europe’s top divisions are about to get underway. There’s been plenty of movement over the summer, including both managers and players and it’s all set to be a bumper season, with plenty challenging for the top prizes and that all-important Champions League.
Ahead of Europe’s big five kicking the first ball of the season, the team at MightyTips have been crunching the numbers to determine who their top picks are and how they see the likes of the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga playing out.
It’s something the brand does every week so it’s always worth checking their expertly sure mega jackpot prediction for the day, with a wealth of jackpot predictions throughout the season but Kate Richardson, MightyTips’ lead football expert has also been kind enough to give us the lowdown on the way she thinks each league is going to play out…
Liverpool ran away with the league in Arne Slot’s first season in charge, but now faces the difficult sophomore year. That’s been made even more difficult by the tragic news about Diego Jota, but Liverpool are strengthening in the same vein that Sir Alex Ferguson would with a 1990s-early 2000s Manchester United.
Prior to the summer you’d be forgiven for thinking Liverpool can’t have the same kind of season as last term, but with the additions of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez and seemingly more to come in the shape of Aleksandr Isak, they’ll be the team to beat.
Former Red, Michael Owen certainly thinks they have the best chance, saying in The Metro: “I think Liverpool are far and away the team with the best chance of winning it. I think they’ve got like a 70% chance of winning it, I really fancy them.”
They are favourites with the bookies, most pricing them around 6/4. Arsenal are second favourites with the bookies with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City third - a position they’re not used to at this stage of a season. Regular favourites, we’d be inclined to have a punt on City. They've signed intelligently and the latter half of last season really did see them come good, just with too much ground to cover to catch up with Liverpool.
It’s a new dawn for Real Madrid with the arrival of Xabi Alonso and the bookmakers are suggesting they will hit the ground running and claim the league. It’ll likely be a two-horse race with Barcelona, who clinched La Liga last year, but financial issues once again have meant they haven’t been able to fully invest.
Madrid, on the other hand, have brought in Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the latter a real marquee signing. Barcelona have added Marcus Rashford to their ranks and are evens with the bookies to secure back-to-back gongs, but our money is with the new generation of Galacticos.
What a season it was last year for Napoli. Not since Maradona’s win in Naples had we seen such celebrations, and we’re backing them to do it again under serial-winner Antonio Conte.
After last season, in which Manchester United outcast Scott McTominay became a key player and Ballon d’Or nominee, the Scot said: “The target was very important, but now we have to focus on the new season and we have to do it again. Great teams and great players are always hungrier and I will do my best for this team. We have a lot of matches this year and a great group."
We think they’ll once again pip the likes of Juventus, Milan and Inter, having added Kevin De Bruyne to their ranks and Dutch forward Noa Lang. Inter are most likely to go closest but it could well be the start of a dynasty on the Campanian coast.
After a brief loosening of the Bundesliga stranglehold in 2023/24, it’s firmly in Bayern’s grasp once again and with Xabi Alonso having left Bayer Leverkusen, it’s unlikely to be challenged in the 2025/26 season.
Bayern have bolstered the ranks in the form of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and will be an even bigger threat going forward. Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Diaz. It’s enough to send a shiver down a centre back’s spine.
Luis Enrique took the “farmers league” remarks to heart last season as PSG conquered Europe, but the fact does remain that there is little competition for them on home soil. In fact, some bookmakers have the Parisians as high as 1/12 to win the league.
It’s fair to say no team will challenge them in Ligue 1. It’s in the Champions League where it may get interesting for them…
With Liverpool, Real Madrid, Napoli, Bayern and PSG most likely to win their domestic divisions, finally how do we see it playing out when they face off with each other.
It’s all set to be a thrilling season across Europe both in the big guns’ respective leagues and the Champions League, particularly when you throw the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, the Club World Cup winners, into the mix. The fact of the matter is, anyone could throw up a surprise!
